Exhibition opening 6pm Thursday 4 December 2025
Litia Roko, one of two recipients of the highly coveted 2025 Canberra Contemporary Exhibition and Mentoring Award, facilitated by the ANU School of Art + Design EASS Program, presents a compelling body of work that confronts the crises of our time. In an era marked by the dominance of AI hype, climate catastrophe, and global instability, Roko’s practice fearlessly interrogates the role of art and culture in navigating the complexities of this critical moment.
As technology giants exacerbate environmental destruction and digital spaces overflow with AI-generated content, Roko poses a vital question: what is the potential of art to address the material and imaginative poverty of our current condition? Through her incisive exploration of the politics of art and technology, Roko offers a critical lens on their intersections and impacts.
This project exemplifies Roko’s innovative and thought-provoking approach to creative practice, demonstrating art’s capacity not as a retreat from crisis but as an active and engaged response to it.
